Looking across to the Kerry side, you can see the famous "Cliffs of Dooneen" that the song cele- brates. In the days of sail Kilbaha was the location where the Shannon river pilots would board incoming vessels, hence the title of the great shipwreck ballad "The Five Pilots of Kilbaha" ("the wind sang high on the rocky coast, to the dance of the restless tide").
